Shopify charges a subscription, payment processing, and optional add-ons. Promotional trial pricing is not the long-term rate. This page cites Shopify’s public US pricing table as fetched from shopify.com/pricing on 29 August 2026. Your invoice can differ by country, currency, billing term, and offers shown in admin. Confirm on Shopify’s site before you budget.

Quick answer

For US dollar list prices on that date, Shopify showed Basic $39/month ($29/month billed yearly), Grow $105/month ($79/month yearly), Advanced $399/month ($299/month yearly), and Plus from $2,300/month. Shopify Payments online standard card rates on that table were 2.9% + 30¢ (Basic), 2.7% + 30¢ (Grow), and 2.5% + 30¢ (Advanced). If you use a third-party payment provider instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify listed extra transaction fees of 2% / 1% / 0.6% / 0.2% by those four tiers. Shopify also advertised a 3-day free trial, then a $1/month for 3 months offer on most plans—treat that as a promotion, not the plan’s list price.

Why plan choice matters

The subscription is the obvious line. Card rates and third-party fees often dominate once you have volume. Staff seats, reports, shipping rate tools, and checkout customization also change by plan. Choosing “the cheapest plan forever” can cost more in processing than upgrading. Choosing Plus because the name sounds serious wastes money if you do not need its features.

What you need before choosing

  • Business country (Shopify Payments availability and local prices).
  • Whether you will use Shopify Payments or another gateway.
  • Whether you need extra staff logins.
  • Whether you sell in person (POS Pro is listed as $89/month per location on that US table, with Plus including a bundle of locations).
  • Honest volume: if you have no sales yet, start on the lowest plan that includes the Online Store features you need, then revisit fees after you have real card volume.

The plans Shopify listed (US table)

Figures below are from Shopify’s public comparison table, USD, 29 August 2026.

PlanPay monthlyPay yearly (per month)Online standard card rate (Shopify Payments)Third-party transaction fee
Basic$39$292.9% + 30¢2%
Grow$105$792.7% + 30¢1%
Advanced$399$2992.5% + 30¢0.6%
Plusfrom $2,300(term-based; see Shopify)“Most competitive rates” on the public table0.2%

Other rows on the same table that often change a decision:

  • Additional staff accounts: not listed for Basic; 5 on Grow; 15 on Advanced; unlimited on Plus.
  • Inventory locations: 10 on Basic/Grow/Advanced; 200 on Plus.
  • Checkout customization: limited on Basic/Grow/Advanced; full on Plus.
  • 3rd-party calculated shipping rates: listed as an add-on on Grow; included on Advanced/Plus in that table.
  • POS Pro: $89/month per location on Basic/Grow/Advanced; Plus listed as including 20 locations (up to 200 with Shopify Payments).

Shopify Help Center documents localized Plus pricing separately (for example USD $2,500/month on a 1-year term and $2,300/month on a 3-year term for standard setups). Complex businesses can be quoted differently. See Shopify Plus plan.

How to choose without a spreadsheet religion

Start on Basic if you are a solo founder, Shopify Payments is available, and you do not need extra staff users. Revisit when processing fees or staff limits hurt.

Consider Grow when you need extra staff accounts, stronger reporting (Shopify lists professional/custom analytics on higher tiers), or the card-rate delta pays for the subscription at your volume. Do the arithmetic with your average order value and your monthly card volume—not a blog’s imaginary store.

Consider Advanced when you need live third-party shipping rates, more staff, or the next card-rate step, and the math still holds.

Consider Plus when you need checkout extensibility, high-volume checkout, expansion stores, or the support and API limits Shopify sells at that tier—not because a competitor “is on Plus.”

Promotions, trials, and credits

Shopify’s pricing page on that date led with 3 days free, then $1/month for 3 months, and marketing credits that vary by plan. Those offers change. Do not write a business plan that assumes $1/month forever. Put the list monthly price in the model.

Common mistakes

  • Comparing only subscription and ignoring card rates.
  • Using a third-party gateway “to save money” without adding Shopify’s third-party transaction fee.
  • Buying POS Pro for a laptop pop-up that only needed casual POS.
  • Quoting USD prices to an Indian or EU founder. Open shopify.com/pricing in your market.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change plans later?

Shopify’s pricing FAQ states you can cancel, and you can change subscription level in admin. Plus terms can bind you to a contract period. Read the term you click.

Are there setup fees?

Shopify’s pricing FAQ on that page said there are no setup fees on their plans. Payment processing and apps still cost money.

Does yearly billing lock me in?

Yearly billing is a lower per-month rate in the table. Cancellation and refund rules are in Shopify’s terms for your region. Read those before you prepay.

Should I include apps in the “Shopify cost”?

Yes. Theme, apps, email send fees, SMS, and shipping labels are often larger than the subscription after month three.

Need help choosing a build, not just a plan?

Plan selection is mostly arithmetic and feature fit. If you need custom Shopify development, theme work, or a redesign after you outgrow a preset theme, AalphaLeo Digital Solutions can help. Phone / WhatsApp: +91 9288621081. That is separate from Shopify’s own billing.
